Well can't say we didn't see this day coming according to 9to5Google

What Google plans on doing is shutting down voice and integrating it's core features into it's messaging app HangOuts.

This actually makes a lot of sense since google hasn't updated voice in a long time and messaging and voice calling app built all in one would make Google a really big competitor in the messaging sector. 

With whatsapp getting VOIP calling and BBM having voice and video capabilities(video only currently working on BB10) Google should be quick to integrate voice into hangouts, look for some sort announcement during this years I/O conference............
